MEDFORD, Mass. – Day two concluded at the Tufts/Deis Invitational for the Amherst men's tennis team which marked four Mammoths in the singles draw, and three pairings in the doubles draw, that are still in contention for their Championships in their resepctive Flights after Saturday's action.
Flight A, Sean Wei '21 went up against Anupreeth Coramutla of Brandeis in his first match of the day, where he took the 6-4, 7-6 (11) win to move into the quarterfinals. Wei then took out Andrew Finkelman of Wesleyan by a score of 7-6(8), 7-5 to place him in tomorrow's semifinals. After advancing to the second round yesterday, Zach Bessette '19 fell in his first match Saturday afternoon by a score of 7-6(6), 6-3 against Justin Patel of Bowdoin. Jayson Fung '20 was set up against Nikhil Das of Brandeis today in the round of 16 where he was able to snatch the 6-4, 5-7, 10-8 victory. He then took on Alex Cauneac of MIT, defeating the Engineer to advance to the semifinals.
Flight B, Damien Ruparel '22 matched up against Evan Fortier of Bowdoin where he notched a 7-6(1), 4-6, (10-3) win before taking on Tyler Ng of Brandeis. Ruparel beat Ng in two sets (7-6, 6-1) to place him in tomorrow's semifinals play. William Turchetta '22 matched Ruparel and advanced to the semifinals after a victory against number six seeded Noah Reich (7-6, 6-2) and Jackson Kogan of Brandeis (6-7, 6-2, [10-5]). Number two seed Harris Foulkes '22 took down his first opponent (Ethan Bershtein) 6-2, 5-7, (10-6), but ultimately fell to Calvin Chung of Williams in two sets (6-2, 7-5).
Flight A, the number four seeded duo of Bessette and Wei took the win in both their matches today, to place them in the semifinals for tomorrow's action. The Mammoths took down Roji and Sweeney of Wesleyan 8-4 before moving to Morris and Eazor of Middlebury College where they marked an 8-6 victory over the Panthers. Fung and Foulkes also advanced to tomorrow's semifinals action as they took out Farrell and Martin (Middlebury) 9-3 before defeating Fortier and Zhao of Bowdoin by an 8-6 margin.
Flight B, Jesse Levitin '19 and Ruparel match the duos in Flight A, by obtaining a day three appearance with an 8-6 win over Tufts, before advancing to the semifinals after taking down number four seeded Anker and Finkelman of Wesleyan 8-5. Turchetta paired up with Oliver Kendall '19 but unfortunately saw an early exit as they fell to number three seed Das and Vohra of Brandeis, 8-6, in the first round.
