MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – No. 2 seed Sean Wei '21 saw his run in the ITA New England Regional Championships come to an end in the semifinals as he fell to Boris Sorkin in three sets on Sunday.
Sean Wei had a tremendous tournament as he breezed through his first couple matches on the first day before refusing to give up a set on day two. He battled to secure a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Oscar Yang of Bowdoin in his first match on Saturday before taking down Tyler Barr of MIT 6-1, 7-5 in the Quarterfinals. For the semifinals, Sorkin took down Wei by a score of 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 to halt Wei's run.
Singles draw summary:
Kevin Ma '21 was able to make it to the Quarterfinals before falling to Jerry Jiang of Bowdoin. Jayson Fung '20 and Harris Foulkes '22 both won their first match but then fell in their second over three sets. Zach Bessette '19 lost in his first round against Adam Tzeng of Brandeis University.
Doubles draw summary:
Bessette and Fung moved onto the quarterfinals where they were taken down by Williams Alex Taylor and Peter Frelinghuysen 9-8(3). William Turchetta '22 and Damien Ruparel '22 saw an early exit in the second round as they lost to Noah Farrell and Peter Martin of Middlebury College 8-3. The last pair of Mammoths, Sean Wei '21 and Harris Foulkes '22, fell early in doubles as they dropped to Middlebury's Weston Brach and David Vilys by an 8-5 mark.
Amherst men's tennis will return to action next weekend (October 6th-7th) when they travel to Bates College for the Wallach Invite.
