AMHERST, Mass. -- The No. 7 ranked Amherst College men's tennis team aims to have another impressive fall showing prior to the spring season of competition. They will open that fall season when they travel to Saratoga Springs, N.Y. tomorrow (September 22nd – 23rd) to take on Skidmore College and Hobart College in a double-header beginning at 11:00 AM.
Head coach Todd Doebler will enter his fifth season at the helm of the Mammoths. The 2004 and 2006 ITA Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year at Notre Dame has led Amherst College's men's tennis team to consecutive NESCAC Championship berths in each of his first four seasons. Doebler has also managed to mark a 71-28 overall record through his first four years.
Last season, the Mammoths finished with a record of 12-7 while also producing another NCAA sweet sixteen appearance. Amherst also saw first year Sean Wei make it to the semifinals in the NCAA Division III Singles Tournament.
Amherst returns all of their players from last season, including seniors Zach Bessette '19, Jon Heidenberg '19, Oliver Kendall '19, Jesse Levitin '19, and Cameron Raglin '19. All five seniors will serve as the 2018-19 season captains for a second straight year.
Doebler also brought in first-years Harris Foulkes '22, Damien Ruparel '22, and William Turchetta '22 who were apart of the sixth best recruiting class in Division III according to Tennis Recruiting Network.
After this weekend's competition, Amherst will travel to Middlebury College for the ITA New England Regional Championships on September 28th-30th. They will be back in action a week later as they travel to Bates College for the Wallach Invite on October 6th-7th. The Mammoths conclude their fall campaign as they compete in the Tufts / Brandeis Invite on October 12th-14th.
