Strong Singles Play Pushes No. 7 Amherst Past No. 20 Case Western Reserve, 6-3

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Battling back from a 2-1 deficit after doubles action, the Mammoths picked up five singles victories as the No. 7 Amherst College men's tennis team edged No. 20 Case Western Reserve, 6-3 Saturday afternoon at the Faulkner Courts on the campus of Swarthmore College.

With the win, Amherst improves to 5-1 on the year, while Case Western falls to 9-8 overall. Amherst returns to the courts tomorrow, Sunday, April 1 when they face off against Kenyon at 10 a.m.

Sean Wei '21 and Jayson Fung '20 earned the Mammoths lone doubles win, downing James Fojtasek, and Anthony Kanam, 8-6 on the first court.

In singles play, Amherst claimed victories on the first five courts, with Wei posting a 6-1, 6-2 win over Fojtasek at the top of the ladder. In the No. 2 spot, Ethan Hillis '21 clawed past Matt Chen in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, while Kevin Ma '21 defeated Sam Concannon, 7-5, 6-1 on the third court. Zach Bessette '19 and Fung capped off the Mammoths match victory with Bessette claiming a 6-3, 6-4 win in the fourth positon and Fung earning a 6-3, 6-3 win on the fifth court.
