No. 9 Men's Tennis Takes Opener vs No. 27 Skidmore

Azusa, Calif. -- The No. 9 Amherst College men's tennis team began their 2018 season in California and collected a quality 7-2 victory over #27 Skidmore College on Sunday afternoon at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex on the campus of Azusa Pacific University.

Amherst (1-0) will face No. 12 Carnegie Mellon today at 4:00 PM in nearby Claremont.

The Mammoths got two victories at doubles and then swept singles matches at #1 and #3-6. 

Sean Wei '21 got his career started with two victories. He was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over Steven Koulouris at first singles, and he paired with Nathan Kaplan '20 to defeat Koulouris and Wynne 8-6 in doubles.

Jayson Fung '20 and Ethan Hillis '21 gave Amherst the advantage after doubles action with an 8-3 win at second doubles, and each of them went on to record singles victories as well.

Kevin Ma '21 breezed to a 6-1, 6-2 win at #5 doubles and Kaplan was also a straight set victor at #4.
