The duo earned First Team recognition for their doubles play for the Mammoths and Second Team honors in singles, while Fung was also named NESCAC Rookie of the Year. Six doubles and six singles selections are named on both the First and Second Team, with eight of this year's 16 total honorees having secured both singles and doubles honors.
Garnering First Team doubles praise, Bessette and Fung finished 12-5 as a tandem, including an impressive 5-1 mark against NESCAC competition while playing exclusively from the first court. Undefeated in league action until the Mammoths regular season finale, the duo boast notable wins against Luke Tercek/Grant Urken of Bowdoin, 9-8 (7-3), Michael Liu/Jake Roberts of Wesleyan, 9-8 (8-6) and Alex Taylor/Brian Grodecki of Williams, 8-5.
The third Amherst men's tennis student-athletes to be named the NESCAC Rookie of the Year, Fung joins Austin Chafetz '12 (2009) and Andrew Yaraghi '16 (2013) as a winner of the notable accolade. Landing on the Second Team for singles, the San Francisco, Calif. native finished the spring owning a 18-6 overall record and a 5-1 mark in league action playing across the middle of the ladder while capturing three big conference singles wins - downing Yangeng Jiang of Bowdoin, 6-0, 7-6 (9-7), Deepak Indrakanti of Williams, 6-4, 2-6, 10-6 and Kyle Schlanger of Middlebury, 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-0.
Making his first appearance on the All-Conference teams, Bessette secures Second Team singles recognition following a sophomore campaign in which the Bradenton, Fla. native posted a 13-12 singles mark. Playing from the first and second court, memorable singles wins for Bessette include two victories against Rohan Shastri of Williams as Bessette edged Shastri, 6-2, 7-5 in a regular season matchup on April 29 and 6-2, 6-4 in NCAA Third Round action.
