Jeffs Topple No. 12 Bowdoin, 7-2

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The third-ranked Amherst men's tennis team remained unbeaten in NESCAC play with a hard-fought 7-2 victory over No. 12 Bowdoin on Sunday afternoon.

Winners of 12-straight matches, the Jeffs improved to 24-2 (3-0 NESCAC) on the season, while the Polar Bears fell 8-5 (3-1 NESCAC) on the year. Amherst returns to action on Friday, Apr. 18 against Conn. College and Trinity.

Headlining the Purple & White's doubles lineup, Joey Fritz '14 and Justin Reindel '14 outlasted Sam King '14 and Kyle Wolstencroft '15, 9-8 (7-3). Michael Solimano '16 and Aaron Revzin '16 handed Chase Savage '16 and Luke Trinka '16 an 8-5 loss in the second slot, while Anton Zykov '17 and Andrew Yaraghi '16 handled Chris Lord '14 and Noah Bragg '15, 8-2.

Dropping the first set of his first singles match against Bragg, 7-6, Fritz rallied for a pair of 6-2, 6-1 wins in the next two frames. Solimano also needed three sets to get past Trinka, recording a 6-4, 5-7, 10-6 triumph.

Down 1-0 against King, Zykov rallied for consecutive 6-4 wins as the Jeffs swept the top three positions. Accounting for Amherst's other singles triumph, Yaraghi made quick work of Lord, 6-1, 6-1. Wostencroft got the better of Reindel at fifth singles, 6-1, 5-7. 7-6, while Savage ousted Revzin at the bottom of the order, 6-4, 6-4.
