BALTIMORE, MD – The Amherst men's tennis team took a 2-1 lead after doubles play and held on to defeat Johns Hopkins on Saturday, 5-4.

The Jeffs are now 2-0 in dual match play this season while the Blue Jays dropped their first of the fall.

In doubles play, Michael Solimano '16 and Aaron Revzin '16 defeated Noah Joachim '15 and Nicholas Garcia '16, 8-4 from the No. 2 court. Anton Zykov '17 and Andrew Yaraghi '16 played in the No. 3 position and won a decisive 8-2 match against Erik Lim '15 and Edward Corty '15.

Singles play was split evenly. Fritz, Zykov and Solimano all earned wins on the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 courts respectively to take the match. Fritz defeated Ben Hwang '15 by scores of 7-5, 5-7, 6-1, Zykov won 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 against Lim and Solimano cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Garcia.

While some members of the team competed against Johns Hopkins, others competed in the two-day Wallach Invitational at Bates. The tournament resumes play tomorrow while some will play at Carnegie Mellon at 1 p.m.
