KALAMAZOO, Mich. - With the team championships behind them, several members of the Amherst men's and women's tennis teams remained in Kalamazoo for the NCAA Division III individual singles and doubles tournaments.

Picking up a pair of wins, Jordan Brewer '14 advanced to the quarterfinals of the women's singles bracket. Dropping the first set of her round of 32 match against Washington & Lee's Sonja Meighan, 7-5, the junior notched a 7-5 win of her own in the second set before cruising to a decisive 6-1 victory in the final frame.

Up next for Brewer was Denison's Kelsey Geppner. Earning a lopsided 6-1 win to open the match, she shut out her Big Red counterpart in the following set (6-0) to punch her ticket to the quarterfinals. Now 18-8 overall, Brewer will face Emory's Beatrice Rosen in tomorrow's round of eight.

Teaming up with Gabby Devlin '14 for the 16-team doubles tournament, Brewer helped the Jeffs notch a hard-fought three-set win to advance to the quarters. Squaring off with the ITA West region's second-ranked tandem of Alexandra Scotten and Laura Wade, the Amherst duo took the first set, 6-2. Battling back, Scotten and Wade won the second, 6-4, before the Jeffs powered to a 6-0 triumph in the third to improve to 19-4.

Representing the Amherst men, Mark Kahan '13 advanced to the quarterfinals with wins over Johns Hopkins' Tanner Brown and Cal Lutheran's Nicholas Ballou. Notching his 16th win of the season, the senior captain opened the day with a 6-4, 6-1, win over Brown. Facing off with the top-ranked player in the West region, Kahan made quick work of Ballou, dropping just four games in a 6-4, 6-0, victory. Kahan resumes action tomorrow with a quarterfinal showdown with the Central region's second-ranked player, Paul Burgin.

Going 1-1, Andrew Yaraghi '16 put the wraps on a tremendous rookie season with a run to the round of 16. Defeating Coe's Noah Sprinkel, 6-4, 7-5, in the round of 32, Yaraghi saw his season come to an end with a 6-2, 6-3 loss to North Carolina Wesleyan's Robert Kjellberg, ranked fourth in the ITA Atlantic South.

In a battle of two top-ranked regional singles players, it was Washington & Lee's Hayden White that prevailed, dispatching of Joey Fritz '14, 6-1, 6-7, 6-3. Playing No. 1 singles for the Jeffs in 2012-13, Fritz closed out a stellar junior campaign with a 12-3 overall mark.
