Men's Tennis Blanks #7 Middlebury, 9-0

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The top-ranked Amherst men's tennis team picked up its 11th-straight win, blanking #7 Middlebury, 9-0, to improve to 26-2 overall on the year and 7-0 in league play.

Amherst's top doubles pairing of Luis Rattenhuber '13 (Munich, Germany) and Austin Chafetz '12 (Ranchos Palos Verdes, Calif.) earned an 8-5 decision over Brantner Jones '14 and Spencer Lunghino '13, while the Jeffs' Andrew Jung '12 (Battle Creek, Mich.) and Mark Kahan '13 (Unionville, Conn.) bested Eric Vehovec '12 and Derrick Angle '12, 8-4, at second doubles.

Wes Waterman '12 (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) and Chris Dale '14 (Austin, Texas) completed Amherst's bid at a doubles sweep, handing Alec Parower '13 and Andrew Lebovitz '14 an 8-3 loss.

Headlining singles action, Kahan rallied from a 6-2 first set loss, taking the next two frames from Jones, 6-3, 6-2, while Chafetz defeated Parower in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Rattenhuber scored a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Angle at third singles, while sophomore Joey Fritz (Cincinnati, Ohio) broke a 1-1 tie in his fourth position matchup with Lunghino after recording a 6-3 third set win.

Andrew Jung rebounded from a 6-3 setback in the first frame of his fifth singles pairing with Edward Fitzgibbons '14, earning a pair of 6-2, 7-5 wins to close out the match, while Waterman held his own at the bottom of the Jeff lineup, notching identical 6-3 victories over Vehovec.

Amherst will close out its regular season on Sunday, Mar. 29 when it plays host to Wesleyan University.
