AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst College men's and women's tennis teams were recognized for success in the classroom when the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its 2012 All-Academic Team and Scholar-Athlete awards.
Both Amherst squads qualified for the ITA All-Academic Team award, which honors programs that maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20. All student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must factor into the GPA for the current academic year.
Eleven Lord Jeffs also earned ITA Scholar-Athlete status for maintaining a GPA of at least 3.50 during the 2011-12 academic year. Representing the Amherst women are Laura Danzig '12, Kimberly Snyder '12, Jordan Brewer '14, Jennifer Newman '14, Zoe Pangalos '14, Isabel Camacho '14 and Safi Aly '15. Danzig also earned ITA All-America honors in both singles and doubles play for the second time in three years.
Four sophomores were named ITA Scholar-Athletes on the men's side after helping the Lord Jeffs post a 31-3 record during the 2011-12 season. Joey Fritz '14, Chris Dale '14, Karan Bains '14 and Brenton Arnaboldi '14 each maintained a 3.50 GPA during the year, with Fritz also earning ITA All-America status for winning the USTA/ITA New England Regional Championship singles tournament at Williams College last fall.
