Jeffs Nab ECAC Championship

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Amherst College men's tennis team won the ECAC North MenÕs Tennis Championship, held Friday and Saturday at Vassar College, capturing three individual singles titles and advancing to the finals of two others along the way. 

Junior Bryan Wexler (West Newbery, MA) won the number-one singles title by default after advancing unscathed through four rounds of play, while sophomore Brian Chin (Dobbs Ferry, NY) took the number-two slot with a 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 win over Mark Zanetto of Sacred Heart. Meanwhile in the number-five group, sophomore Robert Feeley (Chappaqua, NY) came from behind to grab the number-five singles title with a 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 win over Chris Dong of New York University. 

Elsewhere in the draw, sophomore Adam Leibsohn (Mission Hills, KS) advanced to the number-three singles final before losing 7-5, 6-2 to Richard Salem of NYU. Junior David Wellner (West Hartford, CT) also fell in the number-four final, 6-4 and 7-5 to NYUÕs Mike Simmons. 

Amherst finished with 25.0 points on the weekend, just edging NYU in second place with 22.0. Brandeis, Sacred Heart and Manhatten College finished consecutively in third, fourth and fifth place. 

The Amherst men's tennis team returns to action on Friday at the Rolex Championships at M.I.T.
