Hired in the summer of 2016, Cody Cupit enters his fourth season as an assistant coach for the Amherst College men's and women's swimming & diving programs.
Cupit arrives in the Pioneer Valley with several years of coaching experience, including most recently as the men’s and women’s assistant swimming & diving coach at Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y. A 2013 graduate of Hartwick, Cupit served as an assistant at his alma mater beginning in 2014, and assisted in all aspects of managing the program.
During his time at Hartwick, Cupit was the recruiting coordinator; the assistant aquatics director; was responsible for dry land and weight training; a stroke technique instructor; served as a liaison between student-athletes and the academic instructional staff; was the fundraising and community service coordinator; and held several additional athletic department responsibilities.
Since the summer of 2014, Cupit has worked as a coach and assistant camp director at the Hartwick Swim Camp, and also as a staff coach/counselor at the Longhorn Swim Camp at the University of Texas in Austin.
Prior to his time at Hartwick, Cupit was an assistant men’s and women’s swimming & diving coach at Olivet College (2013-2014), and the Lead Swim Coach at Doches Dolphin and East Texas Swim Teams in Lufkin and Nacogdoches, Texas respectively from 2009-2013.
A four-year member of the Hartwick swimming & diving program, Cupit was a two-time team captain, a two-time NCAA Division III qualifier, two-time CSCAA First Team Scholar All-American, was a UNYSCSA All-Academic Team and Empire 8 All-Conference Team member, and still holds several pool and team records. He graduated in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in History Education.
