Men's Swimming & Diving Lands 11 on All-NESCAC Team

HADLEY, Mass. – After clinching a third place team finish at the 2018 NESCAC Championships, 11 members of the Amherst College men's swimming & diving team have nabbed All-NESCAC honors for their standout performances.

The top-three finishers in each event received All-Conference recognition, highlighted by four Mammoth event victories.

Successfully defending his 2017 crowns in the 50 and 100 yard breaststroke, Elijah Spiro '18 set two new pool records en route to clinching first overall in both events with times of 25.07 seconds and 55.38 seconds, respectively.

Sean Mebust '20 and Josh Chen '19 also added two individual All-League nods apiece, with Mebust recording a third place finish in the 50 yard breaststroke (25.73 seconds) and repeating as the 200 yard breaststroke champion with a 2:00.60 mark, and Chen taking second in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 56.11 seconds and third in the 200 yard breaststroke with a 2:03 mark.

Earning All-NESCAC honors in the 100 yard butterfly, Jack Koravos '20 swam to a second place finish with a time of 48.77 seconds. Chris Quinones '19 took the bronze in the 100 yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 56.15 seconds, while Craig Smith '20 claimed All-Conference accolades in the 200 yard backstroke with a second place finish (1:48.34).

On the board, Bennett Fagan '21 landed inside the top-three in both diving events, totaling 461.35 points in the 1-meter to finish third overall and tallying 457.95 points in the 3-meter to take the silver.

Three Amherst relay squads secured All-NESCAC honors, with the 200 yard medley relay team of Smith, Spiro, Sam Spurrell '18 and Koravos leading the way with a first place finish (1:29.84). The 400 yard medley relay and 800 yard freestyle relay quartets each notched third place finishes, as Smith, Mebust, Spurrell and Charles Seltzer '19 teamed up to register a 3:18.63 mark in the 400 before the combination of Ang Li '21, Eric Wong '20, Mebust and  Seltzer logged a time of 6:47.69 in the 800.
