Spiro Breaks Pratt Pool Record to Capture NESCAC Performer of the Week Accolades

HADLEY, Mass. – Amherst College men's swimming & diving senior captain Elijah Spiro has been named NESCAC Performer of the Week, as announced Monday by the league office.

Against No. 4 MIT in the first meet of the weekend, Spiro contributed a pair of second place finishes, swimming his leg of the 200 yard medley relay in 25.28 to lead the team to a 1:33.11 mark and clinching silver in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 57.79 seconds.

Returning home to Pratt Pool a day later, Spiro excelled, securing a 55.92 breaststroke split as a member of the winning 400 medley relay team which finished with a time of 3:27.56 and chipping in two individual victories. Taking to the blocks in the 50 yard breaststroke, the Solon, Ohio native earned a time of 25.96 seconds to secure gold before breaking his own pool record of 56.94 in the 100 yard breaststroke that he set earlier this winter with a time of 25.96 seconds.

Spiro and the rest of the Mammoths return to the pool on Friday, Feb. 23 when they travel to Bowdoin College for the three-day NESCAC Championships.
