Amherst Places 11 on Men’s Swimming & Diving All-NESCAC Teams

HADLEY, Mass. – Amherst College senior diver Asher Lichtig was named the NESCAC Diver of the Year, and the Four Year High Point Diver, and the Purple & White had 11 student-athletes tab All-NESCAC honors as announced by the league office Tuesday.

Lichtig concluded a tremendous four-year campaign at the NESCAC Championships by taking first place in the 1-meter diving event (511.50 points) and earned second in the 3-meter dive  with 494.60 points en route to being named the conference diver of the year. He is the third Amherst diver to receive the distinction, joining Ben Hopkins (2003), and Kai Robinson (2008, 2009). 

Lichtig was also honored as the Four Year High Point Diver, having earned All-NESCAC honors three times on the 3-meter springboard, and twice on the 1-meter board. The 2015 3-meter diving champion is the fourth Purple & White diver to earn the award along with Hopkins (2003), Jordan Bowling (2005), and Connor Boyd (2008).

Jeff Anderson '16 earned All-NESCAC accolades following his top honors in the 200-yard butterfly (1:49.68) and a  third place finish in the 400-yard individual medley (4:02.94). Both times were NCAA 'B' Cut marks. Anderson also helped the Amherst 800-yard freestyle relay squad touch the wall in third with a time of 7:02.23. 

Reed Patterson '17 added a pair of all-conference nods in individual events as he finished second in the 50-yard butterfly (22.42), and third in the 100-yard (49.46) butterfly events. Patterson, whose third place finish in the 100-yard butterfly was an NCAA 'B' Cut mark, also helped the 200-yard medley relay squad clock an NCAA 'B' Cut time of 1:31.41 and notch third place laurels.

Sophomore Elijah Spiro tabbed all-league accolades in the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststroke events with respective times of 25.38, and 56.06. Spiro placed second in both events, while his time in the 100-yard event was an NCAA 'B' Cut mark. He also swam a leg on the all-conference 200-yard medley relay team. 

Connor Haley '17 and Josh Chen '19 each garnered All-NESCAC honors in an individual event and a relay race. Haley powered to a first place mark in the 500-yard freestyle with an NCAA 'B' Cut time of 4:33.75, while helping the 800-yard freestyle relay place third. Chen glided to third place in the 50-yard breaststroke (25.65), and helped the 400-yard medley relay squad secure second place honors with an NCAA 'B' Cut time of 3:21.29.

Greg Han '17 won the 200-yard breaststroke with an NCAA 'B' Cut mark of 2:04.01, while Alex Dreisbach '17 chipped in three all-conference mentions in the 200-yard and 400-yard medley relays, as well as the 800-yard freestyle relay. 

Matt Heise '16 logged all-league honors in the 200-yard and 400-yard medley relays; Charlie Seltzer '19 swam a leg in the 800-yard freestyle relay; and Sam Spurrell '18 helped the 400-yard medley relay squad secure all-conference honors.
