Four Jeffs Qualify For NCAA Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Four Amherst student-athletes qualified for the National Championships on Mar. 19-22 after a strong showing at the NCAA Diving Regionals hosted by Springfield College.

On the women's side, Kaitlyn Linsmayer '14 followed up a stellar performance at the NESCAC Championships with another solid outing this weekend. Setting pool and Amherst records in the 1-meter dive (478.45) at the conference meet two weeks ago, she opened the Regionals by placing seventh in the event with a score of 407.20. Closing out strong on Saturday, she posted the second-best score in the 3-meter (500.10), setting a new program record in the process.

Asher Lichtig '16, Mark Idleman '15 and Colin White '14 starred for the Amherst men, with the trio all earning invitations to the national meet. Lichtig placed fourth in Friday's 3-meter (527.70), while White and Idleman placed fifth (493.70) and eighth (454.85), respectively. At last weekend's NESCAC championships, it was White who finished as the conference's runner-up (523.05), with Lichtig and Idleman coming in fourth and seventh.

Idleman led the Jeffs in Saturday's 1-meter, placing fifth with a score of 468.35. Lichtig finished seventh (463.45), while White came in ninth (436.45) after setting NESCAC, Amherst and meet records with a score of 542.00 at the league championships.
