    The Amherst College swimming and diving teams kicked off their 2011-12 seasons by combining to win all 32 events during Saturday’s dual meet at Colby College. The Lord Jeff women recorded a 173-93 victory, while the men were credited with a 179-94 win.

    Last Tuesday, the Amherst College swim teams took part in the sixth annual Ted Mullin Hour of Power Relay for Sarcoma Research to raise awareness and generate funds for research involving finding treatments and cures for sarcoma, a rare form of soft-tissue cancer.

    The Amherst men’s swimming and diving program has earned four consecutive top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championship, but the Lord Jeffs took a big hit with the loss of the Class of 2011. Notably, Alex Fraser ’11 was a three-time national champion and 16-time conference champ in freestyle events, while Reid Fitzgerald ’11 earned three All-NESCAC honors in backstroke events as a senior.
