  • Amherst Teams Place Top 10 at Nationals; Stern Grabs Top Honor

    The Amherst College swimming and diving teams each placed in the top 10 at the NCAA Division III Championships, which concluded Saturday night at the University of Tennessee. Kendra Stern ’11 (Albuquerque, NM) highlighted the final day of competition for Amherst by winning a national title in the 100-yard freestyle for the fourth time, as she was named National Swimmer of the Year.

The Lord Jeffs improve to 5-0, while the Ephs drop to 2-3.

The Lord Jeff women (2-0) won 11 of 13 events for a 136-98 result, while the Amherst men (2-0) swept all 13 for a final score of 122-79.

    The Amherst College swimming and diving teams opened the 2010-11 season with an impressive showing in a dual meet against Colby College Saturday afternoon at Pratt Pool. The Lord Jeff men won all 16 of their events for a 139-97 result, while the women won 15 of theirs en route to a 145-112 win.
  • Jeffs Return Top Swimmers from Last Year's Record-Breaking Team

    Last season was the best in program history for the Amherst men, who placed fifth at the NCAA Division III Championships for the second time in as many years. Last year’s squad earned a program-high 217 points at the national meet, surpassing the previous year’s total of 196. Amherst was the top NESCAC school at the championships, notably finishing ahead of Middlebury (7th) and Williams (9th). Leading up to the final week of the season, the Jeffs posted a 6-2 record in dual meets and placed third at the NESCAC Championship to mark the ninth consecutive year they finished in the top three. For the second year in a row Amherst had more wins than did any other school at the conference meet, as eight of the 24 races were won by the Jeffs.
