Amherst Teams Each Move to 2-0 with Wins Over Wesleyan

The men's and women's swimming and diving teams continued their impressive opening weekend with big wins over Little Three rival Wesleyan University. The women's team won by a score of 132-89 while the men's team took home a 127-108 win.

In the women's meet, the Lord Jeffs took first place in all thirteen events. Once again, standout sophomore Kendra Stern (Albuquerque, NM) dominated the competition with wins in the 50 and 500 freestyle events in addition to anchoring the winning 200 medley relay team of first-year Becca Thompson (Evanston, IL), junior Ellen Fitzgerald (Indianapolis, IN) and sophomore Brooke Bennett (Arcadia, CA). Thompson also added individual wins in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke to complete a stellar combination of performances in the opening weekend of her college career. Senior captain Sabrina Dorman (Chevy Chase, MD) won both the 1 and 3 meter diving events to round out the team's two-event winners.

The men's team also completed a sweep of the events, taking home first place in all thirteen events to complete a weekend during which the team did not lose a single race. The team's dominance was highlighted by the well-rounded contributions from every class on the roster. Senior captain Christian Witzke (Jacksonville, FL), national champion Kai Robinson (Vashon, WA) and junior stalwart Tad Homchick (Mercer Island, WA) led the charge once again with two individual wins each. Witzke took home wins in the 200 and 500 freestyles while Robinson won the 1 and 3 meter diving events and Homchick won the 50 freestyle and the 100 butterfly. Sophomore Alex Fraser (Willowbrook, IL) anchored the winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays while adding an individual win in the 100 freestyle.

In addition, three first-year performers earned event wins. Tim White (Centerport, NY) posted a strong time in his 1000 freestyle win, while Ryan Lichtenfels (McLean, VA) earned his second event win in as many meets, taking first in a close race in the 400 IM. Bart Federak (Towaco, NJ) also picked up a win in the 100 breaststroke, an event in which fellow first-year Ben McBratney (Evanston, IL) provided a strong second place finish.

Both teams moved to 2-0 on the year and 1-0 in the Little Three with their wins. The teams return to action at Middlebury College Saturday December 6th at 1:00 PM.
