NESCAC Announces 2009 Men's All-Conference Team

AMHERST, MA – The NESCAC announced today the members of the 2008-09 Men's Swimming and Diving All-Conference Team, with the top three finishers in each event at the 2009 NESCAC Championship receiving All-Conference recognition. Eleven Amherst College student-athletes earned the honor, as the Lord Jeffs finished third at this past weekend's championship meet.

Earning All-Conference recognition at their final NESCAC Championship meet were seniors Christian Witzke (Jacksonville, FL) and Kai Robinson (Vashon, WA). Robinson was named the Diver of the Meet for the second time in as many years for successfully defending his NESCAC titles in the 1- and 3-meter dives. Witzke earned All-Conference recognition in five events, including four relays.

Joining the seniors on the All-NESCAC team are junior Tad Homchick (Mercer Island, WA) and sophomores Alex Fraser (Willowbrook, IL), Ryan Colby (Birdsboro, PA) and Reid Fitzgerald (New York, NY). Fraser led Amherst's underclassmen by winning the 100-, 200- and 500-yard freestyle races, as well as playing a role in the winning 400- and 800-yard freestyle relays, en route to seven All-NESCAC honors.

Amherst's impressive first-year honorees, who played a vital role in the team's success throughout the weekend, consist of Ben McBratney (Evanston, IL), Mike O'Connor (Cold Spring Harbor, NY), Ryan Lichtenfels (McLean, VA), Bart Federak (Towaco, NJ) and Tim White (Centerport, NY). Lichtenfels highlighted the Class of 2012 by winning the 400-yard individual medley, dominating the 1650-yard freestyle in record time, and playing a part in the winning 800-yard freestyle relay team.

Norman Scott of Williams was named the Swimmer of the Meet, while Williams' Tyler Bonewell and Wesleyan's Dave Wilkinson came away with Four-Year High Point Swimming and Four-Year High Point Diving honors, respectively. Steve Kuster of Williams earned NESCAC Swimming Coach of the Year recognition, while Amherst's Mary Ellen Clark rounded out the individual award winners by being named Diving Coach of the Year.
