CSA PREVIEW: No. 6 Seed Amherst Primed for Summers Cup Run

AMHERST, Mass. – Competing in their 11th-straight Summers Cup (C Division), the No. 22 Amherst College men's squash team will line up against No. 19 Middlebury College in the opening round of the 2020 College Squash Association (CSA) National Team Championships this Friday, Feb. 28th at 7:00PM on the campus of Harvard University.

Squaring up against Middlebury for the third time this season, the Mammoths, owning an 8-8 overall ledger, hit the courts at the Murr Center as the No. 6 seed in the Summers Cup, while the Panthers (7-10) captured the tournament's No. 3 seed.

The Panthers got the best of Amherst in their first two matchups of the winter, with Middlebury clinching a 9-0 win early in the season (Jan. 16) on their home courts before battling past Amherst, 6-3, in a hard-fought contest in the opening round of the NESCAC Tournament on Feb. 15. Amherst returns to action looking to get back in the win column after most recently dropping a nail-biter, 5-4, to Colby on Feb. 16, while the Panthers aim to pick up their fourth win in five matches after most recently edging Bates, 7-2, in a NESCAC consolation bout.

The winner of the Mammoths' and Panthers' quarterfinals match will advance to the semifinals (Feb. 29, 7:00PM) and face the winner of No. 23 and seventh-seeded Bowdoin College (10-8) and No. 18 and second-seeded Naval Academy (8-13).

Amherst enters the weekend in search of its first Summers Cup title since 2000.
