WINDSOR, Conn. -- Junior David Merkel won a pair of matches, but Amherst College ended their run at the 2018 College Squash Association (CSA) Team Championships with losses to Williams College and Colby College this weekend at Loomis Chaffee School.
Merkel secured the only point for the Mammoths in an 8-1 defeat to the Ephs on Saturday afternoon, and then won his match Sunday as Amherst dropped a 6-3 decision to Colby College.
Terrence Wang '21 was a victor at number one against Colby's William McBrian, securing a four-set victory (14-12, 11-6, 6-11, 11-8). Harith Khawaja '19 was a straight set winner at number three (11-8, 11-6, 11-3), while Merkel topped William Pepi in four sets (10-12, 11-8, 11-8, 11-5).
Against the Ephs, Merkel went the distance and then some against Wyatt Khosrowshahi at the number four position, winning 11-9, 11-13, 14-12, 12-14, 11-6.
Williams earned sweeps at six of the positions, with only Mateen Mills '20 pushing Andrew Litvin to five sets at the number eight spot.
Next weekend the Mammoths will travel to George Washington University for the CSA Individual Championships from March 2nd thru March 4th.
