HADLEY, Mass. – The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) announced their 2018 men's and women's squash All-Conference teams on Thursday afternoon, and three Mammoths were selected by the coaches for this honor.
Senior Kimberly Krayacich was named to the women's squash First Team, and her teammate and classmate Haley McAtee earned a Second Team selection.
On the men's side, first year Terrence Wang was voted to the All-NESCAC Second Team.
Krayacich, a two-time All-NESCAC Second Team selection, moves to the First Team this season. She posted a record of 5-3 at the No. 3 position and moved up to play at No. 1 and No. 2 in the final six matches of the year, winning her first entry at #1 by beating Brandy Williamson of Mount Holyoke in four sets. Krayacich also earned a five set victory against Claire Davidson of Tufts to help Amherst defeat the Jumbos 7-2 in the NESCAC quarterfinals.
Featuring at the top of the lineup for most of the year, McAtee collected seven individual match wins this year, including victories at the number one position over Hamilton, St. Lawrence and Dickinson. McAtee also shifted to the three and four positions, where she won three of her four matches.
Wang stepped into the number one position at the start of his first year at Amherst, and played every match at the beginning of the Mammoth's lineup. He rattled off four straight wins to start his collegiate career, and also won matches against MIT and NESCAC foe Colby College.
The Amherst men's squash team will compete in the Summers Cup at this year's College Squash Association (CSA) team championships. Their entry begins tomorrow at 4:00 PM with a match against Dickinson.
The Mammoth women finished their match season with a record of 11-9 and earned a trip to the B-Division Kurtz Cup after winning the Walker Cup in 2017.
