Mammoths Edged by Colby in Fifth Place Bout

CLINTON, N.Y. -- The Amherst College men's squash team ended their run at the 2018 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) championships with a 5-4 defeat at the hands of Colby College in the 5th place consolation game.

The Mammoths are now 8-9 on the season and are ranked #23 in the country ahead of the CSA team championships at the end of the month at Trinity College.

Terrence Wang '21 was a straight set winner at the top of the lineup, beating Will McBrian 11-3, 1-3, 15-13.

Harith Khawaja '19 gutted out a five set victory over Elliot Gross at the third spot (11-13, 14-12, 11-13, 11-9, 11-4), while David Merkel '19 handled Will Pepi 11-2, 11-7, 14-12 at number three.

The Mules took spots five, six and seven, with Alex Kurtin winning in straight sets over Reggie Brewster '21. Chase Holdin and Jason Brodo each needed five sets and extra points to top the Mammoth's at #6 and #7.

Mateen Mills '20 earned the fourth point for Amherst, defeating Andrew Swapp 11-7, 11-6, 11-5 at number eight.
