No. 25 Men’s Squash Splits with No. 26 Wesleyan, No. 17 Williams in Little III's

AMHERST, Mass. – The No. 25 Amherst men's squash team split with No. 26 Wesleyan University, and No. 17 Williams College in Saturday afternoon's Little III Championship at the Davenport Squash Courts.

Amherst edged Wesleyan, 5-4, before falling to Williams, 9-0. The Purple & White return to action when they host the NESCAC Championships Friday-Sunday, Feb. 3-5 at the Davenport Squash Courts.

In Amherst's win over Wesleyan, the Purple & White earned victories on courts five through nine as Lucas Sheiner '19, Mateen Mills '20, and Mitch Ford '20 all logged sweeps. On court five Darian Ehsani '17 powered to a four-set win (9-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-7), while Christopher Zimmerman '20 picked up a four-set win on court seven (11-13, 11-5, 11-4, 11-2). In exhibition, Ian Petty '19 defeated his opponent, 11-1, 11-0, 11-8 on court 10. 

Michael Groot '17 was edged, 11-9, 9-11, 3-11, 11-9, 11-6 on court two, while Harith Khawaja '19, David Merkel '19, and Cameron Bahadori '18 each fell in four sets on courts one, three and four respectively.

Against Williams, the Ephs secured sweeps on courts one, four, five, six, seven, eight, and nine. Groot fell in four sets (8-11, 15-13, 11-0, 11-2) on court two, while Merkel fell in four sets on court three by a score of 8-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-0. Petty fell in five sets, 11-7, 5-11, 5-11, 11-6, 11-8 on court 10 in exhibition.
