No. 20 Men’s Squash Splits with No. 26 Hamilton, No. 13 Franklin & Marshall

AMHERST, Mass. – The No. 20 Amherst College men's squash team earned an 8-1 victory over No. 26 Hamilton College, but was swept, 9-0, by No. 13 Franklin & Marshall during Saturday's Pioneer Valley Invitational at the Davenport Squash Courts.

With the split Amherst moves to 4-3 on the season. The Purple & White return to Pioneer Valley Invitational action Sunday, Jan. 22 when they host No. 18 Bates College at 9 a.m. and No. 24 Colby College at 3 p.m. at the Davenport Squash Courts.

Against Hamilton, David Merkel '19 and Lucas Sheiner '19 notched straight set sweeps on courts three and six respectively. Cameron Bahadori '18 earned a 4-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-8 win on court four, while Christopher Zimmerman '20 and Mateen Mills '20 notched four-set wins on courts seven and eight by scores of 11-9, 11-3, 2-11, 11-8, and 11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 11-8 respectively. Classmate Mitch Ford also picked up a four-set triumph, 7-11, 11-8, 11-9, 16-14 on court nine, while Ian Petty '19 won the exhibition 10th court, 8-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-8. On court two, Harith Khawaja '19 won, 11-7, 11-5, 11-13, 12-10, while Darian Ehsani '17 edged his opponent, 3-11, 11-6, 5-11, 13-11, 11-7 on court five.

Hamilton's lone win came on court one, 11-2, 11-6, 11-4.

Franklin & Marshall swept all nine scoring courts in their 9-0 win over the Purple & White. Petty picked up a 10-12, 11-6, 11-6, 12-10 victory in the exhibition position for Amherst.
