No. 20 Men's Squash Tops Stanford, 8-1

AMHERST, Mass. - The No. 20 Amherst College men's squash team earned an 8-1 win over Stanford University in day one action of the Pioneer Valley Invitational Friday afternoon at the Davenport Squash Courts.

With the win, Amherst improves to 3-1 on the season, and will take on No. 17 Brown University in non-invitational action today at 4 p.m. at the Davenport Squash Courts. The Purple & White return to Pioneer Valley Invitational action Saturday, Jan. 21 at 12 p.m. when they host No. 26 Hamilton College.

Amherst earned six sweeps against Stanford as Harith Khawaja '19 dispatched his opponent, 11-5, 11-7, 11-3 on court two, while Cameron Bahadori '18 secured an 11-9, 11-4, 11-1 win on court four. On court five, Darian Ehsani '17 posted a hard-fought, 11-6, 15-13, 11-7 victory, while Lucas Sheiner '19 picked up an 11-3, 11-8, 11-6 win from the sixth position.

Court eight saw Mateen Mills '20 notch an 11-0, 11-5, 11-3 sweep, while Mitch Ford '20 downed his opponent, 11-5, 11-6, 11-8 on court nine. In exhibition play on court 10, Ian Petty '19 turned aside his opponent, 11-7, 11-7, 11-9.

On court one, Michael Groot '17 battled to a four-set win, 10-12, 11-9, 11-4, 11-8, while David Merkel '19 saw off his opponent in four sets from the third slot, 11-8, 5-11, 11-4, 11-4.

Stanford's lone win came on court seven as Matthew Stevens logged a 5-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-9 win.
