Men’s Squash Wraps Up Action at Pioneer Valley Invitational

AMHERST, Mass. – The 22nd-ranked Amherst College men's squash team finished Pioneer Valley Invitational action Saturday and Sunday at the Davenport Squash Courts.

THE BASICS

  • After winning 7-2 over No. 28 Hamilton on Friday, Amherst fell, 8-1 to No. 14 Navy and 6-3 to No. 20 Colby on Saturday.
  • The Purple & White picked up an 8-1 victory over No. 25 Dickinson on Sunday, before falling to No. 17 Bates by a score of 8-1.

NAVY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Amherst's lone point against Navy came on court one as Noah Browne '16 earned a 12-10, 11-9, 11-9 sweep.
  • Lucas Sheiner '19 suffered a 3-1 defeat in the seventh position (11-6, 9-11, 11-4, 11-8).

COLBY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Browne tallied another sweep from the first position against Colby, while Darian Ehsani '17 and Jeremy Van '17 powered to 3-2 wins from the No. 5 and No. 8 courts respectively. Ehsani won, 11-7, 9-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-6; while Van clinched an 11-6, 13-11, 7-11, 8-11, 11-9 win.
  • Harith Khawaja '19 and Thornton Ellis '16 each suffered 3-2 losses from the No. 4 and No. 9 courts respectively.

DICKINSON HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Purple & White picked up their second win of the invitational with an 8-1 triumph over Dickinson.
  • Cameron Bahadori '18 picked up a 3-1 (11-6, 11-8, 5-11, 11-8) win on court two, while David Merkel '19 won a 3-2 thriller (11-7, 11-6, 3-11, 11-13, 12-10) in the third position.
  • Browne, Michael Groot '17, Sheiner, Van, Ellis, and Stephen Cacouris '16 all posted 3-0 sweeps.

BATES HIGHLIGHTS

  • In Amherst's 8-1 setback to Bates, Groot earned a sweep from the sixth position.
  • Sheiner battled to a 3-2 defeat on the No. 7 court, while Merkel, Khawaja, and Van all suffered 3-1 losses.
