Jeffs Edged by No. 21 Colby, 5-4

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The No. 24 Amherst College men's squash team dropped a closely contested match, 5-4 to No. 21 Colby College Saturday in the consolation round of the MCSA National Team Championships Summers Cup (C Division), hosted by Wesleyan University.

The loss brings Amherst's record to 6-12 on the season, while the Mules improve to 10-5 this year. Saturday's matchup was the second meeting between the Jeffs and Colby this season, as the Mules claimed the Jan. 17 match, 6-3.

On court No. 1, Noah Browne '16 cruised to a 3-0 victory against Colby's William McBrian by scores of 11-4, 11-5 and 13-11.

In the bottom of the lineup, Max Kardon '15, Jeremy Van '17 and Alex Southmayd '15 picked up wins from the No. 6, 7 and 8 positions, respectively. Kardon needed all five sets to take care of business on court No. 6, while both Van and Southmayd won their matches in four sets, on courts seven and eight.

Amherst will play again tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. against Hobart College.
