Jeffs Fall to No. 17 Middlebury in First Round of MCSA National Team Championships

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The No. 24 Amherst College men's squash team fell, 8-1 to No. 17 Middlebury College in the first round of the MCSA National Team Championships Summers Cup (C Division) hosted by Wesleyan University.

With the loss Amherst falls to 6-11 on the season, while Middlebury improves to 13-7 overall.

Noah Browne '16 picked up the only win of the day for Amherst as he took the No. 1 court against Andrew Jung, 3-1 (11-6, 7-11, 11-3, 11-9).

On court No. 8, Alexander Southmayd '15 battled to a fifth set but lost the decisive fifth frame, 14-12. Stephen Cacouris '16 also played a five-set match in the No. 9 position. Cacouris rallied from two-sets down with a pair of 11-9 wins in sets three and four, but fell, 11-3 in the deciding fifth stanza.

The Purple & White resume action tomorrow at 9 a.m. against No. 21 Colby College which lost a 5-4 decision to No. 20 Wesleyan in first round action.
