WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – For the third straight season, the seventh-seeded and nationally-ranked No. 22 Amherst College men's squash team squared off against 10th-seeded and No. 26 Conn. College in the First Round of the NESCAC Championships, as the Jeffs prevailed with an 8-1 win.
With the victory, the Jeffs improve to 6-7 overall and have advanced to the Quarterfinals. They will face second-seeded Williams at noon. The Camels drop to 8-13 on the year and fell into the consolation match, in which they defeated 11th-seeded Tufts, 8-1.
Amherst and Conn. College met earlier this season on Jan. 16 as the Jeffs won by a similar score. Friday night, the Purple & White claimed the top five positions. Noah Browne '16, Scott DeSantis '15 and Cameron Bahadori '18 shut out their opponents from courts one through three, respectively. Michael Groot '17 earned a 3-1 win from the No. 4 position and Darian Ehsani '17 claimed a 3-1 win in the No. 5 spot.
The Jeffs also swept their competition from the bottom of the lineup. Jeremy Van '16 won from the No. 7 spot, Alex Southmayd '15 took the No. 8 court and Stephen Cacouris '16 grabbed a win from the No. 9 position.
