WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The seventh-seeded and No. 22 Amherst College men's squash team fell, 6-3 to second-seeded and No. 13 Williams College in the Quarterfinals of the NESCAC Championships on Saturday at the Simon Squash Center on the campus of Williams.
With the loss, Amherst falls to 6-8 overall, while Williams improves to 12-7 on the season. The loss also put the Jeffs in the consolation round where they fell, 5-4 to sixth-seed and No. 20 Wesleyan University. Following Saturday's two matches, the Purple & White stands at 6-9 on the season.
Against Williams, Noah Browne '16 was able to come back after being two sets down on court No. 1, to win 3-2. Despite losing the first two sets by a score of 11-8 each time, Browne won the next three including the decisive fifth set by a score of 11-0. Michael Groot '17 also needed five sets to get the victory on court No. 4, and he too won the fifth set 11-0. On court No. 9 Stephen Cacouris '16 earned a 3-1 (11-7, 7-11, 11-6, 11-6) win to highlight the Purple & White's loss to the Ephs.
Against Wesleyan, Scott DeSantis '15 posted a 3-2 victory on the No. 2 court after falling in the first two sets. Darian Ehsani '17 and Max Kardon '15 won from the No. 5 and No. 6 courts, with 3-1 and 3-2 victories respectively. Alex Southmayd '15 secured Amherst's fourth win from the No. 8 court in a 3-2 match.
Amherst returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 8 at 11:30 a.m. against No. 8 Bowdoin College.
