Jeffs Fall to No. 14 Bates, 8-1

AMHERST, Mass. - The 21st-ranked Amherst College men's squash team fell to No. 14 Bates College Saturday night at the Davenport Courts, 8-1.

The loss was the first of the year for the Jeffs who are now 2-1. The Bobcats improve to 4-3 overall this season.

Alex Southmayd '15 picked up the only win on the day for the Jeffs as he defeated Ahmed Hatata on the No. 6 court, 3-1 by scores of 11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 12-10. Michael Groot '17 took Nabil Saleem to a fifth set on the No. 4 court but was edged, 3-2. After taking the first two sets of the No. 8 court by scores of 11-6, 11-8, Stephen Cacouris '16 lost three straight to lose to Carlos Ames.

Amherst is back in action tomorrow, Jan. 11 and will face Navy at 11 a.m.
