BRUNSWICK, Maine - Several members of the Amherst men's and women's squash teams wrapped up play at the Division III Invitational hosted by Bowdoin College.

Taking place over three days, the first-ever tournament featured student-athletes from 14 Division III institutions. The 'A' draw for both men and women featured 32 players, while the 'B' draw consisted of 16 players.

Competing in the men's 'A' bracket, Noah Browne '16 defeated Tyler Finkelstein, 3-0 (11-7, 11-4, 11-6) in the round of 32. He then upended Nabil Saleem, 3-0 (11-4, 11-7, 11-6), before downing Jamie Ruggiero, 3-1 (11-8, 10-12, 11-6, 11-7). Losing his semifinal match to eventual champion Taylor Foehl in five sets, Browne took third-place with a win by default over Stephan Danyluk. 

Also in the 'A' bracket, Scott DeSantis '15 turned away Wyatt French, 3-1 (11-7, 11-5, 2-11, 11-8), in his opening round match-up before falling to Christopher Wilkinson, 3-1 (10-12, 11-1, 11-6, 12-10). DeSantis closed out his tournament with a loss to Aditya Advani in the second round consolation, 3-0 (11-8, 11-8, 11-6).

In other 'A' bracket action, David Kerr '14 dropped his round of 32 showdown against Kevin Chen, 3-0 (11-8, 11-2, 11-5). Moving to the consolation bracket, he outlasted Tucker Hamlin, 3-2 (12-10, 7-11, 13-11, 10-12, 13-11) before rallying to best Andrew Maruca, 3-1 (8-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-6). In the consolation semifinals, Kerr emerged victorious over CJ Smith, 3-0 (11-0, 11-0, 11-0) before taking the championship with a hard-fought, 3-2 (11-4, 11-3, 5-11 6-11, 11-3) triumph over Darrius Campbell. 

Playing in the 16-person 'B' bracket, Alex Southmayd '15 rebounded from a first set loss to Dominic Hansford by taking the next three frames by scores of 11-7, 11-6 and 13-11, respectively. The junior then edged out Maxwell Bearse, 3-2 (8-11, 13-11, 3-11, 11-9, 11-2), before bowing out to Yuga Koda, 3-0 (11-2, 11-7, 11-8). Southmayd wrapped up his weekend with a 3-0 (11-6, 12-10, 11-9) loss to Harrison Croll in the third-place match. 

On the women's side, Arielle Lehman '15, Ericka Robertson '16 and Meyha Sud '16 competed in the 'A' bracket. Despite losing the first two sets, Samantha Matos ousted Lehman in the first round, 3-2 (7-11, 15-17, 11-6, 11-9, 11-6), while Alyssa Northrop dispatched of Sud, 3-0 (11-6, 11-1, 11-1). 

Robertson needed just three sets to get by Annie Maxwell, 3-0 (11-7, 11-3, 11-7), but would fall to Abigail Jenkins in the round of 16, 3-0 (11-4, 11-4, 11-2). In consolation action, Lehman lost to Tiffany Hau, 3-0 (11-8, 12-10, 11-4), while Sud fell short against Lesea Bourke, 3-1 (11-13, 11-6, 18-16, 11-1). 

In the 'B' division, Evelyn Kramer '14 suffered a first set loss to Ashley Arthur, 11-8. Battling back, the senior scored wins of 11-2, 11-4 and 11-9 to advance to the quarterfinals. Squaring off with Tara Tischio, Kramer swept her way into the semis, notching decisions of 11-7, 11-5 and 11-6. Suffering a 3-1 (11-8, 9-11, 11-7, 11-9) setback to Chloe Polikoff, she finished up the competition with a 3-2 (9-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-7, 11-5) defeat to Elizabeth Brehman in the third-place playoff.
