Jeffs Edge GW, Fall to Franklin & Marshall

AMHERST, Mass. – The No. 22 Amherst men's squash team edged out No. 20 George Washington, 5-4, in its first match of the day but dropped an 8-1 decision to No. 6 Franklin and Marshall in its second matchup on Sunday at the Pioneer Valley Invitational.

The Jeffs (4-5) narrowly defeated George Washington, 5-4. Noah Browne ' 16 earned a 3-2 win from the No. 1 position. After dropping the first two games 11-5 and 11-7, the sophomore rebounded to win three straight to pull out the 3-2 win.

Amherst dropped four matches from the No. 2 to No. 5 positions but earned victories on courts six through nine. Max Kardon '15, Jeremy Van '17, and Thornton Ellis '16 all swept their competition and Darian Ehsani '17 won a 3-1 decision from the No. 8 position.

Following the 5-4 win, the Jeffs fell to the sixth-ranked Diplomats in its final match of the Pioneer Valley Invitational, 8-1. Browne claimed the only win for Amherst with a 3-2 decision in the top spot. The sophomore dropped the first game but pulled out a 14-12 win in game two. After an 11-7 loss in game three, Browne pulled out wins of 11-8 and 11-7, respectively, to claim the win.

The Jeffs return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 21 and will head to Brown for a 1 p.m. contest.
