BOSTON, Mass. - Winning four of the top five positions, the 22nd-ranked Amherst men's squash team defeated No. 23 Colby at the College Squash Association (CSA) Summers Cup (C Division) consolation semifinals, 5-4.

Having also bested the Mules during the regular season, the Jeffs improve to 7-11 on the season and advance to face No. 21 Bowdoin in the consolation championship slated for Sunday, Feb. 16 at 11:30 a.m. The Polar Bears edged out the Jeffs during a showdown in the NESCAC Championships on Feb. 1, 5-4.

Continuing to impress at the top of the Amherst lineup, Noah Browne '16 handled CJ Smith '16, 3-0 (14-12, 11-8, 11-1). Tied at a set apiece in a second position match-up with Patrick McCarthy '17, Scott DeSantis '15 won a pivotal third frame by a score of 11-1 before closing things out with an 11-8 triumph in the fourth.

Yuga Koda '16 outlasted David Kerr '14 in the third position, 3-2 (12-14, 11-6, 11-8, 8-11, 11-8), while Alex Southmayd '15 rebounded from an 11-9 first set loss to Hugh Doherty '17, taking the next three frames by scores of 11-5, 11-7 and 11-7, respectively. Max Kardon '15 shut out Trey Simpson '14, 3-0 (11-4, 11-6, 12-10), in the fifth position, while William Hochman '14 took care of Michael Groot '17, 3-0 (11-6, 12-10, 11-5).

In a seesaw affair, John Eder '15 downed out Darian Ehsani '17, 3-2 (11-9, 9-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-8), while Jeremy Van '17 tripped up Steve Carroll '14 in four sets. Tied at a frame apiece, the first-year captured the third, 11-8, before notching an 11-4 decision in the fourth set to seal the win. Ben York '15 recorded the Mules' only other triumph, upending Rodrigo Miranda '14 at the bottom of the order, 3-2 (11-5, 11-7, 10-12, 8-11, 11-5).
