AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College men's squash team opened its season with a 9-0 loss to visiting powerhouse University of Capetown on Monday in an event scheduled as a warmup for the Jeffs' match at regional rival Vassar College on Wednesday night.
In what turned out to be the match of the day, second-seed Carlo Valdesolo (Andover, MA) extended Capetown's Tiko Motshubi to five games before falling 17-16, 9-15, 8-15, 17-15 and 7-15. Amherst top-seed Addison West (Haverford, PA) also took the first game from Capetown's Stephen Ingersent, but dropped the next three, all by the score of 15-10.
Capetown swept the rest of the afternoon's matches 3-0.
