Men's Soccer Secures NCAA At-Large Bid, To Play Thomas College In Opening Round

AMHERST, Mass. – Earning an at-large bid to the 2019 NCAA Championship tournament, the top-ranked Amherst College men's soccer team is set to take on Thomas College (10-8-1) at regional host Keene State College this Saturday, Nov. 16 in opening round action at a time to be determined. The Amherst women's soccer team will be hosting NCAA Regional contests at Hitchcock Field this weekend, with the men's squad to take back potential hosting duties next weekend for Sectional play if they advance.

Despite a suffering their first blemish of the season in the NESCAC Championship Semifinals to Middlebury, 1-0, Amherst (14-1-1) put together a strong enough resume during the program's fourth undefeated regular season since 1998 to secure the team's 19th overall appearance in the NCAA postseason since 1993, and 14th consecutive bid since 2006.

Thomas College enters the NCAA tournament as the North Atlantic Conference's automatic bid following a 4-1 victory over Maine Maritime in the NAC finals on Nov. 10. The first round matchup will mark the Terriers sixth overall appearance in the national postseason, with Thomas looking to get past the First Round for the first time in program history.

The second first round tilt features host Keene State (15-6-0) and No. 25 Ithaca College (12-5-2).

The Owls punched their ticket to the NCAA tournament and regional hosting duties with a 1-0 victory over Eastern Connecticut State on Nov. 10 to clinch the Little East Conference (LEC) title, while Ithaca earned an at-large bid after a tough loss to Clarkson in the Liberty League Quarterfinals, 1-0 on Nov. 5
