Wu Lands CoSIDA First Team Academic All-District Praise

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Junior defender Felix Wu of the Amherst College men's soccer team has been selected to the 2019 Academic All-District Men's Soccer First Team, as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), for his combined performance on the playing field and in the classroom.

A Biology and Economics double major with a 3.69 grade point average, Wu has excelled as a mainstay on an Amherst defensive unit that has allowed just 10 goals all fall to rank second in the NESCAC and 24th in the nation in team goals against average (0.60).

The first Mammoths' men's soccer student-athlete to be named Academic All-District since 2015 when Nico Pascual-Leone '16 earned the distinction, the Bethesda, Md. native has impressed both when hitting the books and the pitch – starting 13 contests for top-ranked Amherst to help the Purple & White clinch the program's fourth undefeated regular season since 1998, and first since 2015, and the top-seed in the conference tournament for the sixth time in team history.

On patrol in the backfield, Wu has been a formidable nuisance for opposing offenses as the Mammoths have held adversaries to a minuscule .070 shot percentage and to just 64 shots on net so far this season.

Putting 38.5% of his shots on frame - 13 in total - in 2019, Wu has started 43 of 54 possible games in three seasons (46 appearances) and is also a two-time NESCAC All-Academic Team selection.

Altogeather, 92 student-athletes earned First Team Academic All-District distinction across eight geographic districts in the United States and Canada, with Wu claiming one of 11 spots in District 1 (Mass., Maine). Wu is one of six student-athletes from NESCAC institutions to earn the honor.

First Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Academic All-America ballot, with First and Second Team Academic All-America honorees to be announced in early December. If Wu were to claim Academic All-America honors, he would be the 38th Mammoth to do so since the prestigious program's inception in 1952, and the first men's soccer player since Gabriel Wirz '15 (2014) - and just the fifth men's soccer player ever - to earn national recognition.
