Giammattei Becomes Second Ever 3-Time Men's Soccer NESCAC Player of Week

NESCAC RELEASE

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Sophomore forward German Giammattei's historic week for the Amherst College men's soccer team continued Monday, with the Pinecrest, Florida native claiming his third New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Player of the Week accolade of the year after notching two game-winners in a six-day span.

The second-ever student-athlete to claim three men's soccer Player of the Week honors in the same season since the awards inception in 2000, Giammattei joins Bowdoin's David Bulow (2001) as a three-time recipient and is the first-ever conference member to do so without Co-Player honors.

Previously, Giammattei, Spencer Noon '13 (2012) and Jake Duker '09 (2008) were each tied in the Mammoths' record books with two single-season NESCAC Player of the Week shout outs.

Leading the charge in a non-conference 4-2 win over William Paterson, Giammattei netted two goals and added helper before dishing out the assist on the tying score and cuing an Amherst celebration 6:18 into overtime with his NESCAC-leading 17th goal in a 2-1 OT victory over Colby.

Giammattei's three-point day against the Mules pushed him to the top of Amherst men's soccer single-season records, with the sophomore setting program records in goals (17) and points (37) with two regular season games remaining in 2019. Tied-for-third in Division III in goals scored and finding the back of the net in seven of the Mammoths' eight NESCAC contests, Giammattei's tally on Saturday marked his fourth consecutive game-winner and sixth of the fall.

Giammattei and the top-ranked Mammoths (11-0-2, 6-0-2) are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 26 when they travel to Bates College (8-4-1, 4-3-1) for a 2:00PM battle at Russell Street Field.
