NESCAC Goals Leader Giammattei Picks Up Second Player of the Week Accolade

NESCAC RELEASE

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Sophomore forward German Giammattei of the Amherst College men's soccer team has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week for the second time this season, as announced by the league office Monday.

Previously earning the accolade on Sept. 16, Giammattei continued to be clutch up front for the Mammoths in a 2-0 week, potting both scores in Amherst's 2-0 shutout win over Wesleyan to lead the team to the program's 27th Little Three Championship Title.

Getting the home team on the board in the 40th minute, the Pinecrest, Fla. native converted on a penalty kick to log his third game-winning goal of the fall before connecting on a header 13 minutes later to add an insurance tally.

Scoring in five of Amherst's six conference games, Giammattei currently sits tied for third in the nation in goals with 12 and leads the NESCAC in both goals and total points (25).

Giammattei and the Mammoths are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 12 when they take the field for their regular season home finale against fellow undefeated program and top-ranked Tufts University (8-0-1, 4-0-1). Opening kickoff following Senior Day celebrations at Hitchcock Field is slated for 2:30PM.
