Nguyen, Coleman Capture All-New England Region Accolades

UNITED SOCCER COACHES RELEASE

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Senior Luke Nguyen and junior Cutler Coleman of the Amherst College men's soccer team have been selected to the 2018 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III All-New England Region Teams, as announced by the organization Monday.

A Second Team All-Region honoree last season, Nguyen captured First Team status for his efforts on the field this fall, while Coleman rakes in his first All-Region accolade as a Third Team selection.

A First Team All-NESCAC honoree, Nguyen lands on the All-Region First Team after ranking tied for second on the Mammoths and ninth in the conference in goals with five and fourth on the team in points with 13 (T-12th NESCAC) in 16 appearances. Potting three game-winners on the season, two of which came in 1-0 victories, the Old Lyme, Conn. native racked up a 55.2 shot on goal percentage as one of New England's premier midfielders.

Also selected to the All-NESCAC First Team, Colman lands on the All-New England Region Third Team after a stellar junior campaign during which he was a disruptive force on both sides of the ball. A standout defender, the Winter Park, Fla. native led Amherst with 18 starts, netting two goals, including a game-winner, and dishing out two helpers to total six points in 19 appearances as an anchor on a backline that recorded a 0.94 goals against average.

The Mammoths finished 2018 with a 14-5-1 overall ledger and a 6-3-1 mark in league play, while advancing to the conference semifinals and to the program's ninth consecutive NCAA Sweet 16.

In Oct. 2018, Amherst proudly recognized Ted W. Beneski '78, P'08 and Laurie M. Beneski P'08 for their extraordinary generosity and commitment to the College by naming the men's & women's soccer program in their honor. The College's naming of the Beneski Soccer Program celebrates the Beneskis' love for Amherst athletics and their longstanding investment in helping Amherst students excel as learners, as players and teammates, and as citizens.
