AMHERST, Mass. – For the fourth consecutive season, the No. 18 Amherst College men's soccer team has earned the right to host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Division III Championship, with the Mammoths welcoming Bridgewater State, No. 8 Saint Joseph's and Middlebury to Hitchcock Field for Regional competition.

Amherst will take on the Bears on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. in the first opening round matchup of the day, while the Monks will take on the Panthers at 1:30 p.m. for a spot in the regional finals.

HOW THEY GOT HERE

  • Amherst earned regional hosting duties and an at-large bid to appear in the programs' 18th overall NCAA tournament after putting together a 12-4-1 overall record. Making their 13th consecutive trip to the national postseason, the Mammoths join Trinity-Texas as the only programs in the nation to appear in every NCAA Championship since 2006.
  • Bridgewater State University (11-7-1) enters the NCAA tournament as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference's automatic bid following a 5-3 come-from-behind victory over Framingham State in the MASCAC finals on Nov. 4. The first round matchup will mark the Bears' sixth overall appearance in the national postseason, and first since 2015.
  • The lone team in Division III without a loss or tie on the season, Saint Joseph's College (20-0-0) punched its ticked to the NCAA tournament with a 1-0 victory over Johnson & Wales on Nov. 4 to clinch the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) title.
  • Joining the Mammoths as one of four NESCAC teams to earn an at-large bid to the national postseason, Middlebury received the nod despite a tough 1-0 loss to Williams in the league quarterfinals after compiling a 10-3-3 overall ledger.

SCOUTING THE AMHERST MAMMOTHS
12-4-1 Overall – Schedule/Roster/Stats

  • German Giammattei '22 headlines an Amherst attack that possesses five double-digit point getters, with Giammattei notching a team-high 14 points behind six goals and two assists.
  • Luke Nguyen '19 (5G, 3A) and Sebastian Derby (6G, 0A) are next on the Mammoths with 13 and 12 points, respectively, while Dane Lind '20 has dished out a team-leading 10 helpers to go along with one score to total 12 points on the year. Fikayo Ajayi is the final Mammoth to eclipse 10 points with 3 goals and five assists for far this fall.
  • Starting 14 contests for the Mammoths, Bernie White '22 (10-2-1) has made 60 stops while allowing just 10 goals to boast a 0.76 goals against average and a .857 save percentage in 1190:40 minutes.

SCOUTING THE BRIDGEWATER STATE BEARS
11-7-1 Overall – Schedule/Roster/Stats

  • A two-way player, Kessy Alves has kept defenses on their toes throughout the fall, posting nine goals and nine assists for a team-leading 27 points.
  • Kevin Roberts is a scoring threat alongside Alves, with the sophomore tallying eight markers and four helpers for 20 total points. Zachary Ells (1G, 10A) and Kane Moran (4G, 3A) round out Bears who have 10-or-more points on the season.
  • Tim Alzamora and Stanislaus Sokolov join Ells as Bridgewater State's defensive starters, with the trio helping the Bears post a 1.61 goals against average.
  • Playing all but 18 minutes in between the pipes for the Bears, Nate Morgado (11-7-1) has recorded 100 saves to log a 1.63 goals against average, a .763 save percentage and five shut outs.

SCOUTING THE SAINT JOSEPH'S MONKS
20-0-0 Overall – Schedule/Roster/Stats

  • Fifth in the country in assists, Cody Elliott has dished out 14 helpers and potted six goals to lead Saint Joe's in points with 26 alongside Brett Mattos who has tallied 26 total points behind 11 scores and four assists.
  • Tied for third in DIII in scoring offense (3.85), 10 Monks have registered double-digit points on the year, with Noah Robinson (8G, 4A) joining Mattos and Elliott as players to eclipse the 20-point mark.
  • Dalton Gaumer and Jackson Taylor have proven to be standouts on a staunch defense that boasts a 0.05 goals against average, with duo starting all 20 games.
  • Seeing the majority of minutes in frame for the Monks, Blake Mullen (18-0-0) has made 24 saves while only allowing one goal this season in 1448:42 minutes to lead the nation in save percentage (.960) and goals against average (.062).

SCOUTING THE MIDDLEBURY PANTHERS
10-3-3 Overall – Schedule/Roster/Stats

  • Netting a team leading six goals, Ben Potter has also added two helpers to lead Middlebury in points with 14.
  • An offensive catalyst, Daniel O'Grady in next on the Panthers in points with 12 behind four scores and four assists, while Henry Wilhelm rounds out double-digit point getters (10) with five goals on the year.
  • Peter Davis, Michael McFarlane and Aidan Robinson headline a defense that boasts a 0.47 goals against average, with the trio starting every game on the back line in 2018.
  • In between the pipes, Matthew Hyer (10-3-3) has started all 16 contests for the Panthers, racking up a 43 stops to own a 0.49 goals against average and a .843 save percentage in 1473:40 minutes.
