MECHANICSBURG, Pa. -- Messiah College has been selected as the host for the NCAA Division 3 Men's Soccer sectionals, and that's where Amherst College will play their third round game on Saturday at 1:30 pm against Rochester.
The Mammoths reached the sectionals for the eighth consecutive season thanks to a penalty kick victory on Sunday over Springfield at Hitchcock Field. Amherst enters the game ranked No. 16 in the country and with a record of 12-3-3. This is the 17th overall appearance in the NCAA postseason since 1993, and the 12th consecutive bid since 2006.
Rochester (13-3-3) finished the season as the third place team in the competitive University Athletic Association (UAA), but earned an at-large bid to the tournament. Playing at the Oneonta regional, the Yellowjackets knocked off another New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) team, beating Connecticut College 2-1, and then knocked off the host Red Dragons in overtime by an identical score.
The first matchup of the day will feature the host Messiah (20-2-0) against the Ducks of Stevens Tech (13-6-2) at 11:00 AM. The winners of each game will meet on Sunday at 1:00 pm for a trip to the Final Four in Greensboro, North Carolina.
