Pascual-Leone Nets Two as Amherst Races Past Williams, 4-1


AMHERST, Mass. – Amherst College used a pair of goals from Nico Pascual-Leone '16 and one each from Christopher Martin '17 and Andrew Orozco '17 to give the 13th-ranked Jeffs a 4-1 victory over No. 25 Williams College in Saturday afternoon's NESCAC men's soccer game at Hitchcock Field.

With the win, Amherst improves to 4-0-1 on the season, 3-0-1 in league play, and improves its current unbeaten streak in NESCAC action to 24 games. Williams moves to 3-2-0 overall, 2-2-0 in conference play.

Amherst opened the scoring early in the game as Martin found himself dribbling down the right wing and slotted a shot into the middle of the net as the keeper came out to try and close down the angle at the 15:44 mark.

The Jeffs added to their tally in the 29th minute when Pascual-Leone controlled the ball just outside the 18-yard box, dribbled to his left and then laced a shot into the right corner to give Amherst a 2-0 lead.

Eight minutes before the break, Williams pulled one back when Andres Burbank-Crump scored on a free kick in the 38th minute to set the score at 2-1.

In the second half, Pascual-Leone struck again when he collected a through-ball from Bryce Ciambella '18 and finished with his second goal of the season – this one in the top right corner – to extend the cushion to 3-1.

Two minutes later, Pascual-Leone delivered a beautiful free kick service into the box to Orozco who was able to smash a header into the nylon giving the Purple & White a 4-1 advantage.

Jeffs' net-minder Thomas Bull '16 made four saves in the winning effort, while his counterpart Christian Alcorn also turned away four shots.

Amherst held a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal, while the Ephs notched four corner kicks to the Jeffs' two.

The Purple & White returns to NESCAC action n Saturday, Sept. 27 at Tufts University at 2:30 p.m.
