AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst College Athletics Department and the Mammoths' men's lacrosse program are happy to announce the recent hiring of Thomas Muldoon as an assistant coach for the program.
"Thomas will be an extraordinary mentor for our young men," stated Amherst head coach Jon Thompson. "Our relationship extends 10 years, and there - quite frankly - are very, very few people in the world I'd like to associate our program more closely with than coach Muldoon."
A 2010 graduate of Brown University, Muldoon comes to the Pioneer Valley following a two-year stint as the first assistant and offense and recruiting coordinator at fellow Division III program Colorado College. Helping lead the Tigers to an NCAA Tournament appearance and the program's first-ever top-20 national ranking, Muldoon was in charge of an offensive corps that averaged a noteworthy 14.2 GPG while also acting as the driving force behind recruitment.
"His experience at Colorado has been important in his development as a coach, but without question more importantly - is his humanistic makeup," noted Thompson. "This is an extraordinary human. We have been really lucky to have great assistants here at Amherst, and Thomas is no exception."
A four-year pro, Muldoon has seen action with the Denver Outlaws of Major League Lacrosse and with Team Cascade of the LXM Pro League following an illustrious collegiate playing career at Brown where he was honored as a two-time All-American on attack and as an Academic All-American. A team captain during his senior season and two-time Cliff Stevenson Award winner, Muldoon is the 10th all-time scorer in Brown Bear history (116 goals) and was thrice named First Team All-Ivy League and First Team All-New England while leading the program to the Ivy League Championship in 2008 and 2010.
Off the field, Muldoon is a passionate education and sustainability advocate, founding the 501c3 Non-Profit Earth Lacrosse Programs after acting as the program director of Go Kuleana – an organization dedicated to providing educational events around sustainability for low-income children in Hawaii (2011-2015).
With the goal of creating a cultural program dedicated to educating players and communities on the indigenous roots of lacrosse and introducing the health benefits and culture of lacrosse to indigenous youth in the western states, Muldoon founded Earth Lacrosse Programs in 2015. Offering both summer camps and immersion programs, Earth Lacrosse aims to reconnect players with the roots of the sport of lacrosse while working to produce the complete lacrosse player: a community contributor, a fierce and conscious competitor, an ambassador of the game, and a steward of the Earth.
Joining head coach Jon Thompson and third year assistant Dan Annino '16 on the Amherst sideline in 2020, Muldoon will act as the Mammoths offensive coordinator- working primarily with the team's attackmen and midfielders.
