AMHERST, Mass. – Senior attackman Evan Wolf and sophomore goalkeeper Gib Versfeld of the Amherst College men's lacrosse team has been named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's (USILA) Division III Warrior and New Balance Team of the Week following a big 2-0 week for the Mammoths.
Closing out the regular season on April 24, Amherst picked up a dominant 21-7 win over Trinity College before downing fifth-seeded Bates College for the second time in seven days, 23-9, on April 27 in a NESCAC Championship Quarterfinal matchup.
His third Team of the Week selection this season, Wolf led the Mammoths in a up front, netting six goals and dishing out five helpers for 11 points while picking up four ground balls and causing a turnover to own a 50.0 shot percentage over the two-game span.
A native of Langhorne, Pa., Versfeld shined in his first playoff start, coming up big for the Mammoths against No. 16-ranked Bates – making 20 saves and picking up two ground balls in the winning effort. Also making eight saves against Trinity earlier in the week, Versfeld finished the two contests with a combined four ground balls, a caused turnover, a 73.7 save percentage and a 6.67 GAA.
This is the seventh consecutive week Amherst has landed a student-athlete on the USILA Team of the Week, with Versfeld's selection marking the fifth different Mammoth to earn the accolade.
The fourth-seeded Mammoths return to action this Saturday, May 4 when they battle third-seeded Williams in the NESCAC Semifinals on the campus of top-seeded Tufts. Opening faceoff is slated for 3 p.m.
