HADLEY, Mass. – Junior defender Phil Johansson and senior forward Thomas Lindstrom of the Amherst College men's ice hockey team have been named to the All-NESCAC Teams, as announced by the league office Tuesday.
12 student-athletes from seven institutions garnered the annual award, with six forwards, four defenders and two goalkeepers named to the First and Second Teams. Five skaters across the First and Second Teams are repeat All-NESCAC honorees, with Amherst, Connecticut College, Hamilton, Trinity and Wesleyan each represented by two players.
A native of Saint-Zotique, Quebec, Canada, Johansson picks up All-NESCAC First Team accolades to record his first career All-Conference selection. Ranking third on the Mammoths in points with 16 and fourth in the league among defenders in scoring, Johansson tallied four goals, including two power play scores and one game-winner, and dished out 11 assists in a stellar junior campaign. Additionally, Johansson was a critical component of Amherst's nationally prominent penalty kill unit that finished 96 of 105 (91.4%) to lead the NESCAC and currently rank second in all of Division III.
A tri-captain, Lindstrom lands on the All-NESCAC Second Team for the second consecutive year after an impressive senior season that saw the Brooklyn Park, Minn. native lead the Mammoths in all major offensive statistical categories. Racking up 10 goals, including six power play scores and one game-winner, and 13 assists to total 23 points, Lindstrom closed out 2017-18 ranking seventh in the conference in points per game average (0.89).
Amherst concluded the 2017-18 season with an 11-9-5 overall ledger and an 8-5-5 mark in NESCAC play, capturing the third-seed in the highly competitive conference.
