Jeffs Power Past Conn. College, 4-0

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The No. 11/12 Amherst College men's hockey team used goals from four different players to help secure a 4-0 victory over NESCAC rival Conn. College on Friday evening in New London, Conn. 

With the win, Amherst (15-4-2, 11-4-0 NESCAC) splits the regular season series with Conn. College which moves to 11-8-2 on the season, 8-6-1 in league play. 

In the opening period, Chris Roll '17 netted an unassisted goal, his first marker of the season, to give Amherst a 1-0 lead at the 14:27 mark. 

Leading 1-0 heading into the second period, Conor Brown '16 deposited the puck in the back of the net for his ninth goal of the season just 4:54 into the frame to increase the Jeffs' advantage to 2-0. Topher Flanagan '16 and Tyler Granara '18 assisted on the goal. 

Following a tripping penalty against the Purple & White, Amherst was able to counter the man-advantage for Conn. College when Brendan Burke '16 scored an unassisted short-handed goal at the 10:30 mark of the session to up the Jeffs' lead to 3-0. 

Leading the Camels in shots, 23-19 through two periods, Amherst ratcheted up the pressure on the Conn. College goal and struck for its final tally when Austin Ho '17 scored at the 16:21 mark. Andrew Fenwick '15 and Kevin Ryder '16 provided the helpers on the Purple & White's fourth goal of the contest which sealed the 4-0 win. 

Amherst outshot the Camels, 37-23 and senior goalie Danny Vitale (8-3-2) turned away all 23 shots on target that he faced. 

Tom Conlin (10-7-2) maded 33 saves in the losing effort for Conn. College, highlighted by 13 saves in both the second and third frames. 

The Jeffs were 0-for-5 on the power play, while the Camels were 0-for-4 with the man-advantage. 

Amherst returns to NESCAC action on Saturday, February 14 at Tufts University. Puck drop is slated for 4 p.m. in Malden, Mass.
